Is the shelf depth really 18"? Seems excessive

Are the corners sharp? I want to use this in a preschool room?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy rolling and well made Am so happy with the rolling cabinet I purchased for my research laboratory. The large casters make it easy to move around when needed and it has thicker gauge metal to stand up to laboratory use. There are two bolts that you just have to have a socket wrench for - and one set of small hands to get around the folded inner flange. Am totally satisfied!!
