Interactive Whiteboards Buying Guide

Interactive whiteboards let you create versatile lessons and presentations, but there are a few things you'll want to consider before choosing an interactive board for your classroom:

You'll find a few types of interactive markerboards on our site:

Digital Pen Boards - Digital pen boards are an economical choice for your classrooms and conference rooms. These traditional interactive whiteboards come with a digital pen that acts as a mouse and allows you to write, draw and control computer applications.

Touch Boards - Touch boards cost a bit more, but give you a greater level of flexibility in your lessons. Touch boards also come with a digital pen, but many features, such as zooming and scrolling, can be controlled simply by touching the board surface with your fingers.

Interactive Capture Systems - Interactive capture systems mount to existing markerboards and provide the benefits of an interactive whiteboard at a fraction of the cost. All necessary hardware and software is included. Plus, interactive capture systems are portable, so they can be used in multiple classrooms.

Projector Packages - You'll also find an affordable package that includes an interactive markerboard and a short-throw projector. Short-throw projectors are perfect for use with interactive whiteboards, since they can be mounted directly above the board to prevent shadows during use.

The size of your interactive whiteboard depends mostly on the size of your room. For large classrooms and auditoriums, you'll want a bigger board, while small classrooms and conference rooms may require a smaller board. Remember, interactive boards are measured diagonally, much like television screens.

Computer Compatibility

Interactive whiteboards require a computer for use, so you'll need to make sure that your computer is compatible with the board you choose. Our interactive boards are compatible with both Macs and PCs, but you should check the system requirements for the board before making a purchase. In most cases, this includes the operating system your computer is running and the available connections you have.

There are many accessories available for both interactive whiteboards and capture systems. If you'll be using your interactive board in multiple classrooms, consider buying a mobile stand. Opt for a wireless adapter and get more freedom during presentations. You'll also find replacement pens, mounting brackets and carrying cases for your interactive capture system.
