Meeting the Unique Needs of School Art Classes

Art in education extends from preschool through high school, and many students continue to pursue learning the arts in college and beyond. Art encompasses a diverse array of curriculum beginning with arts and crafts for early learners and evolving into the fine arts for older students. Regardless of the grade level, an art class is configured much differently than a typical classroom.

When it comes to art, space is paramount. Space is needed for students to create, for storing art supplies, drying art, cleaning equipment and displaying finished work. Creating means having the right furnishings to provide individual work areas like easels, art horses, drawing tables, stools and art tables. It also means having art supplies for every student, usually in multiple grade levels. The sheer number of supplies requires having sufficient storage ranging from taborets and cabinets to shelving and carts.

Once projects are finished, drying or setting may be necessary. The number of students in a particular art class will dictate the space needed to accommodate this step which typically involves shelving, drying racks and easels. Depending on how many classes an art teacher instructs, the number of art projects in various stages of completion can be staggering. Careful planning is essential to ensure enough space is allocated for each class and student.

Perhaps the most important space, and the one everyone enjoys, is for exhibiting the final artwork. A multitude of display systems and art hanging rails help maximize space both in the classroom and throughout the school. This is especially useful during open houses and other special school events when parents and other guests are visiting.

School Outfitters has the all the furniture, art supplies and storage to support the specific needs of art teachers. From furnishings built for durability and safety necessary for younger students to drafting tables and drawing boards for older grade levels. We can take your vision and bring your art room to its fullest potential.
