BUYING GUIDE
Find picnic tables that fit your outdoor space and hold up to years of student use.

Picnic tables are a staple of any outdoor playground, courtyard, or learning space. They give students a durable spot to sit, eat, socialize, and work. When it comes to materials, think about your climate and how much maintenance you are willing to take on. Steel frames are strong and affordable but may require rust treatment over time. Aluminum is lightweight, rust-resistant, and low-maintenance, making it a smart pick for wet or coastal climates. Wood offers a classic look but needs regular sealing or staining to stay in good shape. Recycled plastic is one of the most durable, weather-resistant options available and requires virtually no maintenance, which makes it a popular choice for schools. Beyond the frame, the tabletop surface matters too. Smooth tops are ideal for outdoor crafts or any activity that involves writing or drawing. Perforated or textured tops shed water more easily and work better for eating and casual socializing.
Lockers with vents circulate air and prevent moisture build up that can cause unpleasant odors and mold.
Check ADA compliance requirements before purchasing. ADA-compliant tables feature extended tabletop overhangs and clear ground space underneath to accommodate wheelchair users.
Order in bulk when outfitting multiple outdoor areas. Standardizing on one style and material simplifies future replacements and keeps your spaces looking consistent.
Consider the age of your students when selecting table height. Many manufacturers offer tables in standard and ADA heights, and some even offer adjustable options for mixed-age settings.
Keep up to date.

Product Types
Recycled Plastic Picnic Tables
Recycled plastic picnic tables aren’t just eco-friendly: they’re durable, virtually maintenance free and available in a variety of colors. These tables are primarily made from recycled plastic water bottles and milk jugs. (Fun fact: it takes 6,300 milk jugs to make one 6-foot picnic table!) Recycled plastic picnic tables can be easily cleaned with soap and water and will not rot, splinter or rust over time.
Metal picnic tables are typically steel or aluminum with a thermoplastic or paint coating for extra durability and protection against the elements. Aluminum tables are rust resistant and weigh less than the average table, making them an excellent choice if your picnic tables need to be moved often. Steel picnic tables are durable, long-lasting and have expanded metal or perforated metal tops that drain water during rainy months. Expanded metal has a lattice pattern and is less expensive than perforated metal but is more institutional looking. Perforated metal, which is stamped with holes, offers a more stylized look.
Rectangle picnic tables are a classic choice and ideal for big groups. Rectangle tables offer plenty of tabletop and bench space for users to spread out and eat, socialize and work. Shop rectangular picnic tables in all sizes, styles and colors.
Round picnic tables are great for smaller groups of people. These tables are conducive to collaboration and sharing and are a smart choice if you plan to use your picnic tables for outdoor group work. Choose between round picnic tables with bench seating or attached chairs for back support.
Square picnic tables are another excellent choice for small groups. Square tables offer bench seating with or without back support and are available in all sizes, styles and colors to suit any outdoor space.
Preschool picnic tables are sized specifically for small children. A preschool picnic table’s small design prevents children from slipping in between the bench seat and tabletop, as the gap isn’t as wide as it is on an adult table. Preschool tables are available in a variety of shapes and fun colors to brighten any playground or outdoor classroom.
Portable picnic tables are not anchored to the ground in any way, unlike surface mount or in-ground picnic tables. This makes portable picnic tables an ideal choice if the design of your outdoor space changes frequently. Although these tables aren’t anchored to the ground, many have steel frames and can weigh over 200 pounds – and therefore are not prone to theft or movement.
ADA accessible picnic tables ensure that people of all abilities have a place to sit and enjoy themselves. These tables are designed with either extended tops or without bench seating to easily accommodate a wheelchair. Many tables are available in both a standard and ADA design to ensure there is a cohesive look to your park or playground.
